Scottish Water overflow upgrade in the Cramond

Scottish Water is executing an £8.6 million wastewater and storm overflow upgrade in the Cramond area of Edinburgh, managed by Caledonia Water Alliance. The project aims to significantly reduce sewer-related debris and protect the marine environment in the Firth of Forth and Cramond Beach. [1]

Key Project Details

  • Locations: Upgrades are focused on three main storm overflows: Cramond House, Davidson’s Mains, and the Cramond Wastewater Pumping Station.
  • Timeline: Construction at Cramond House and Davidson’s Mains will begin in July 2026, with work at the pumping station starting in October 2026. The entire scheme is expected to be completed by autumn 2027.
  • Improvements: New screening will be installed to prevent items larger than 6mm—such as wet wipes—from entering the water environment during periods of heavy rainfall.
